China Pharmaceutical University (CPU), situated in the historical and cultural city of Nanjing, is one of the “211 projects” key universities affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. It has been known for its long history and its leadership role in China’s pharmaceutical academic field. The University was founded in 1936 as China’s first independent four-year National College of Pharmacy and the first public institution for higher pharmaceutical education in China.

CPU provides a wide variety of disciplines including Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Economics, Management, Arts and Law. The first-level discipline of Pharmacy was enlisted as a National Key Discipline. In 2015’s ESI statistics, our pharmacology and toxicology, chemistry, as well as clinical pharmacy programs ranked the world’s top 1%.

The publications in pharmacology and toxicology ranked top of the nation. CPU offers 25 bachelor’s degree programs, 5 associate (polytechnic) programs, 24 research-oriented doctoral degree programs under the two first-level disciplines of Pharmacy and Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, 36 research-oriented master’s degree programs under 5 first-level disciplines, 23 disciplines open to post-doctoral research scholars under the two first-level disciplines of Pharmacy and Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, as well as 5 professional degree programs at the master’s level.

CPU adheres to the principle of prioritizing academics, with a focus on being teacher and student-oriented, embracing a win-win philosophy. The university implements an educational model that integrates knowledge, abilities, and quality, emphasizing the cultivation of students’ creative thinking. CPU is dedicated to fostering future pharmacy elites and holds the unique distinction of winning the First Prize of National Teaching Achievements three times consecutively.

In 2014, CPU recommended three projects for the National Teaching Achievement Award, all of which secured the second prize, surpassing other pharmaceutical education institutions. The university consistently achieves top rankings in graduate employment rates among MOE-affiliated universities and local colleges in Jiangsu Province. In 2014, the undergraduate employment rate ranked first among universities directly subordinated to the Ministry of Education.

The University actively promotes research innovation, striving to develop novel medicines for public health. With 18 key labs, including The State Key Laboratory of Natural Medicines, as well as provincial or ministerial level labs, engineering technical centers, and innovative platforms, CPU is at the forefront of research. The university has forged academic collaborations with institutions in over 40 countries and regions.

Between 2011 and 2015, CPU undertook 26 major projects for the nation’s Innovative New Drug initiatives, securing 178 million Yuan in funding, the highest among all universities nationwide. Researchers at CPU received two 2nd Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. The university achieved national certification for 2 new drugs, approved clinical research for 6 new drugs, and obtained 410 patents while publishing 3919 SCI-indexed articles.

Today, CPU is diligently working towards its aspiration of becoming a world-renowned, high-level, research-oriented university.

These esteemed individuals have a rich publication record, played a key role in groundbreaking drug discoveries, and provided consultation to government officials and business leaders. Among them are Academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Changjiang Scholars, National Scientific and Technological Progress Award Winners, and National Outstanding Teaching Achievements Winners.

Leader in Pharmacy Education:

CPU has been at the forefront of driving reforms in pharmacy education in China, earning the prestigious “first prize” for National Outstanding Teaching Achievements three times between 2004 and 2016. The university takes a leadership role in chairing six Supervising Committees at the national level, contributing to the establishment of Quality Assurance Systems in Pharmacy Education across China. Additionally, CPU has played a pivotal role in setting national standards and accreditation systems for pharmacy-related majors.
